The town of Creede is the county seat and the only incorporated municipality in Mineral County, Colorado. The town population was 257 at the 2020 U. S. Census. The town sits at a elevation of 8,799 feet (2,682 meters). Founded in 1890 after the West's last great silver strike, Creede at one point briefly swelled to over 10,000 residents. Today, it maintains its 1890s aesthetic while operating as a thriving tourist hub.
The Creede Repertory Theatre, is a highly acclaimed professional theatre company founded in 1966 that brings big-city performances and weekly improv comedy to this small mountain town. Then there's the Underground Mining Museum. Located directly inside the cliffs, this unique museum offers tours of the underground fire station and artifacts from the boomtown days. Creede, features an arid to semi-arid mountain climate. On July 11, 2003, the town saw it's highest ever temperature set when the thermometer reached 84°F (29°C). Its coldest temp was -40°F (-40°C) on November 25, 1931. Annual snowfall is approximately 56 inches / 142 centimeters per season.
