The town of Georgetown is the county seat of Clear Creek County, Colorado. The town sits at an elevation of 8,530 feet (2,600 meters) above sea level. The population was 1,118 at the 2020 census. The town is located just off I-70 and only 45 miles west of Denver. A historic mining town, it originated in 1864 when the Belmont (silver) Lode was discovered nearby, and by the time the Colorado Central Railroad arrived in 1877, it was producing vast amounts of silver.According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Georgetown has a warm-summer humid continental climate. In the winter months, the town sees 105.9 inches (269.61 cm) of snow fall. It's average yearly precipitation is 18.29 inches (46.5 cm). The highest temperature ever recorded in Georgetown, is 92°F (33°C), which occurred on July 17, 1971. The coldest temperature reading was -28°F recorded in April 1972.
