Monarch Mountain (aka Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area) is a ski resort, located in the San Isabel and Gunnison National Forests, and situated on Monarch Pass, on the continental divide. It has 67 trails and 7 lifts. Top elevation 11,960 feet (3,650 meters); Base elevation 10,790 feet (3,290 meters). Lots of snow falls here, with an average of around 400 inches (1,018 centimeters) each snow season.

Monarch Mountain, along with the Pass, are named after the 19th-century lost Colorado town of Monarch, which was located near the pass and razed by CDOT to make way for US Route 50, which runs over the pass and which the ski area is located just off of.

Monarch Ski Mountain is known for its affordability, laid-back vibe, uncrowded slopes, far-out alpine views and genuine reliable snowfall. Trail difficulty is well-balanced: 19% beginner, 27% intermediate, 38% advanced, and 16% expert. It has a tubing park with five lanes, and the two terrain parks designed for all skill levels.
