The Town of Vail is
in Eagle County, Colorado. The population of the town was 4,835 in 2020. Set within
White River National Forest, the town is a gateway for winter sports such as skiing
and snowboarding. It’s also a summertime destination for golfing, hiking and cultural
festivals. Gore Creek, which is popular for fly fishing, runs directly through the town
center. Vail
is known today for it's upscale amenities.
The town, sitting at 8,150 feet /2,484 meters, was established and built as the base village to Vail Ski Resort. Vail Ski
Resort's first season was in December 1962; and today it's the largest ski
mountain in Colorado. During the mid-1970s, Vail became known as "the Western
White House" of President Gerald Ford, when he conducted much of the nation's
business from The Lodge at Vail hotel.
Climate wise, Vail is considered both an alpine or subarctic climate transitional with humid continental
climate. The town receives an average of 189.2 inches (481.8 cm) of snowfall per season.
The warmest temperature ever recorded in Vail, took place on July 7, 1989
when the thermometer reached 95°F (35°C), while the coldest temperature was -32°F
(-36°C) which occurred in February (exact date not noted in records).
